Wearing our older, comfortable clothes can be all well and good on occasion. Sometimes it is fine to take it easy and not think about how we look, but in truth we present ourselves with greater confidence when we know that we are looking our best. And sometimes appreciating that a little effort can make all the difference to how we feel and how others perceive us can make a major difference to making that effort worthwhile on a more regular basis.
- Face. Taking care of skin, hair and makeup enables us to feel more confident and smart. We can relax knowing that we are presenting a composed, self-contained appearance and that persona can be a useful shield at times. We can be confident knowing that however we are feeling inside we are projecting an outer calm exterior. Often when people have been through a difficult time or had a change of lifestyle they use it as an opportunity for a new look. It often improves confidence levels and inspires a renewed sense of energy and a fresh outlook.
- Underwear. Wearing good quality underwear can be a luxurious secret. The special feeling, knowing that lovely fabrics and sensuous garments are being worn underneath ones regular day clothes can be a rather glamorous feeling. Wearing ones 'best' underwear for oneself can be an important choice, rather than the usual older items.
- Clothes. It is not unusual for people to have cupboards that contain lovely new clothes, some with the tickets still on them. Some of these items may be being saved for a special occasion that will justify wearing them. The problem can be that often these items become forgotten about, or our clothes size changes, or they become out-of-date. Many of these clothes may well end up at the charity shop, given away for someone else to buy.
- Shoes often make an outfit. Many women are passionate about their shoes and have many pairs of elegant boots, shoes and sandals. Often though the old shoes are still worn for day-to-day use and trainers are comfortable for casual wear. There are hundreds of pounds being regularly spent on shoes that are stored on shoe racks and in boxes. Getting them out to wear can make an ordinary outfit feel extra special and give it a new lease of life.
- Jewellery. Many people have fabulous jewellery, some received as a gift, other pieces bought to go with a particular outfit. Sometimes though remembering what we own and which special pieces can add glamour to an outfit can require too much of an effort, especially if we are in a hurry. It can be a help to take the time to regularly go through the jewellery drawer, reminding ourselves which pieces are modern and quirky and which are more traditional and classy. Otherwise the same pieces can end up being worn all the time. Putting some different jewellery with an outfit can give it a completely fresh look
- Body. How we feel about our body can be a major factor to our confidence levels. Taking care to eat well and nutritiously, to regularly exercise and keep fit, to keep ourselves clean, fresh and well-maintained are all significant factors in feeling good about ourselves. Learning to listen to our body, visit for health checks and keep ourselves as well as possible all feature in feeling healthy, confident and able to be the best we can be.

Foods that Can Fight Disease
While researchers try to develop a pill or new cure to fight one of a number of diseases, the magic potion that they are spending millions of dollars to find could be right under their nose. Alternative medicine tells us that a wide variety of herbs, fruits and vegetables have healing power and now conventional medicine is starting to catch on. There are a number of foods which have been shown to lower your risk for heart disease, stroke and cancer. The idea is simple, eat well and live long.
When it comes to preventing cancer, vegetables lead the way. Packed with antioxidants that can slow or stop the growth of some cancer cells are dark green vegetables like spinach, romaine lettuce and collard greens. Other vegetables which are loaded with antioxidants include Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. The antioxidants contained in these foods go after the free radicals associated with cancer that damage healthy cells in the body. Beans and peas are other foods that may be able to block cancer cells from reproducing slowing down the growth of some tumors.
Tomatoes are another food that shows promise in warding off cancer. The lycopene in the tomato has been shown to prevent prostate cancer. Blueberries are another fruit which is loaded with antioxidants that have been shown to not only prevent cancer but can also stop the growth of some cancer cells. Garlic and mushrooms are other foods which are believed to have components that can protect the body from cancer. Flax seeds are loaded with similar ingredients that have been shown to protect against colon cancer.
When it comes to protecting the heart, fish is at the top of the list. The omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon and tuna are natural cholesterol fighters and can reduce the risk of developing dangerous heart arrhythmia. The American Heart Association is so convinced of the powers of fish that its own diet recommends having two servings of fish each week. Even if you do not like the taste of the fish, these oils are contained in a number of supplements now for sale over the counter which can help protect your cardiovascular system. Fish oil is also a powerful anti-inflammatory which shows promise in helping people with arthritis deal with the pain. Fish oil is also an anticoagulant which keeps the blood thin and can prevent strokes.
To promote good overall health, you should also be consuming foods that are rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Potassium. Bananas and sweet potatoes provide a great deal of potassium which will keep your bones strong. Vitamin C can be found in strawberries, raspberries and red peppers and that will also build strong bones and at the same time protect the skin from cancer. The best substance for keeping the bones strong as we age is calcium and that takes us back to those dark green vegetables which we already told you were good for you. And, don't forget the old standby that makes the body stronger, milk.

Alternative Energy and the Economic Recovery
As oil hovers in the $80 per barrel range and the faltering global economy struggles to recover from the current decline, the need to invest in alternative energy and identify viable alternatives to oil as an energy supply becomes even more pressing. Why? In the past, when the cost of oil reached a certain percentage of GDP, an economic downturn ensures. In today's economy that figure is about $80 per barrel. If this is accurate, that would mean the global economy may be teetering on the verge of another down leg, if not a financial collapses, should oil increase in price appreciably higher than $80 per barrel.
If we are in a recession, why is oil trading at about $80 per barrel anyway? Is the world running out? No, the world is not running out of oil, however there are other challenges such as the price to bring oil to market.
Case in point: For oil producers to clear a profit on their oil production, the price of oil needs to be in the $60 to $70 a barrel. If it drops below some $60, drilling and research experience a substantial drop with a corresponding drop in output, putting future demand at risk.
Many people believe that offshore oil from countries like Brazil that have major untapped reserves is the answer. What is not fully appreciated is that the break even amount to get the oil from these sources that are up to 7 miles below the oceans surface is about $80 per barrel. And then we ask have to ask ourselves: Is deep sea oil even practical after the BP oil spill debacle?
Let's review the initial stage of the current recession which started about first quarter of 2008. Note that at that time, oil went over $100 per barrel and remained there for about the next 2 quarters. Initially, the economic effect was obvious to the majority of observers. The government denied we were in a downturn, but the general public was attentive enough to know that the economy was in less than healthy condition.
Then, the recession that was not a recession, was eventually confirmed to be one a few weeks after the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers in September of 2008. From there the recession morphed into the most severe economic downturn since the Great Depression. Now the recession that wasn't a recession is going through a recovery that is not really a recovery as evidenced by high unemployment and real estate foreclosure levels.
So what would it take to cause a spike in energy to over the $100 range, placing the economy at risk? How about a geopolitical event in the Middle East? Or a terrorist attack on a major oil producers facilities? How about an attack on commercial vessels in the Straits of Hormuz where 40% of the global oil is shipped daily? If you believe that one of those scenarios is improbable, simply turn on the news and listen to the current events in the Middle East. It would appear we are on the brink of a major conflict.
A geopolitical event or terrorist attack notwithstanding, increased oil demand from the expansion of emerging economies could easily drive oil prices well past $100 per barrel inside of the next 12 to 24 months. The higher oil prices go, the more pressing a sound alternative energy arrangement on a domestic and global scale would be required.
Anyone can surf the web and read about developments in offshore wind power, solar power and hydrogen fuel cell technology. The recent advancements in electric / hybrid autos are impressive as well. While noteworthy progress is taking place in these areas, it is not anywhere near satisfactory to ease concerns of the current rate of rising oil costs.
The bottom lines is this: If an substitute fuel supply, minimally on a back up level, is not developed ASAP, then the increase in oil costs which are on their way could take this recovery which isn't a recovery and turn it into a depression that IS a depression. Which will come first?

Multiple Personality Disorder - A Rugby League Player's Story
A friend of mine, who suffered from depression recently, related his story to me. Being a former National Rugby League Player, he started getting depressed whilst playing Rugby League. He could not identify the reasons and kept sinking into greater depths of depression.
As a result his friends started avoiding him. A common sight was his friends gathering together behind his back and talking and laughing about him. He was treated as though he was some kind of a Looney.
He eventually decided to quit Rugby and went to a Psychologist for treatment. He soon realised that a Psychologist alone will not help and went to a General Practitioner for medication.
After several months, he came out of depression. This gave him the freedom to seek other work. He soon found work as a Fireman. He worked in this role for 10 years. During the first 6 to 7 years of his life, he was fit. However, he went into depression again and left work. His wife left him and it took him several years to get out of depression. He now talks widely on the subject from a practical perspective.
This case highlights several things. It states for example that public perception of mental illness is:
• That it is a stigma
• That people fear those with mental illness and avoid those who suffer from mental illness
• That people talk behind the backs of those people who suffer from mental illness.
The case raises a few questions for me. It highlights the need for public education. It demonstrates that a Psychologist is not the best person to always see when a person suffers from Mood Disorder of any kind. Some people suffering from anxiety disorder or depression get out of it and than relapse. Others continue to suffer for the rest of their lives.
My friend played Rugby League when he initially suffered from Mood Disorder.
There are several other cases I am aware of where famous football players have suffered from Mood Disorder but have effectively hidden their suffering from everyone. Another famous Rugby League player for example recently admitted to suffering from multiple personality disorder after retirement. He played the game so well and was regarded as one of the best players of all times. No one ever therefore realised what he was suffering from when he was a player. His friend close to him said that he was the closest friend to this famous player but never realised that he suffered from such a condition.
This case highlights the need to share your condition with your close friends. The first step is to see a GP. Following tests, a GP can recommend the best option.
You do not have to suffer in silence.

How to Lose Weight Without Diets
Technically speaking, losing weight is simple -- just cut your daily intake of calories and exercise more. When your organism finds it cannot extract the necessary energy from the food you consume, it will start burning the fat deposits in waist and other parts of your body. So, the most natural way to lose weight is to keep to a diet, which reduces the energy your consume and do regular exercises to burn energy.
While this approach to weight loss is most natural and healthy, it is not easy. No wonder that a lot of so-called weight loss pills were developed, which make it easier to lose weight. One of the most popular categories of these pills are fat blockers and fat binders. They work by reducing the amount of fat that your organism assimilates from foods. Fat blockers (the most well-known example is Orlistat, marketed as Xenical) in particular inhibit the lipase enzyme in the intestines which breaks up fat making it ready for digestion. As a result, the fat cannot be absorbed by the organism so it passes freely through the bowel. Fat binders work by binding to the fat molecules, again making it unabsorbable by intestines. Fat blockers and binders have very nasty side effects (among them are uncontrollable foul-smelling anal discharges.) Naturally you cannot expect that removal of fats from your diet in such a way will be healthy.
Another category of weight loss supplements includes appetite suppressants. They reduce your appetite by making the organism think it is already full. One of the most popular herbal appetite suppressants is Hoodia Gordonii. Hoodia is a cactus-like plant which grows in South Africa. Its appetite suppressing capabilities were well-known by Bushman who used it during their long hunting trips. Since Hoodia Gordonii is a purely natural treatment, it doesn't have any side-effects associated with synthethic prescription appetite suppressing drugs such as Phentermine.
Real Hoodia Gordonii Plus helped millions of people around the world to lose weight fast. While purchasing Hoodia Gordonii online, make sure that it has all necessary certifications proving it is not fake.
